Most of the risks in people’s life are little risks, uncovered by insurances. To cope with them, they cover these risks themsleves with their savings.

Individuals take care themselves of a part of their risks
Everyday, individuals cover themselves a lot of risks without using their insurances. Appliance’s failures or unexpected expenses: they identify some risks and deal with them directly.


Money is a way to cover those risks
Those risks of daily life, individuals cover them by always keeping a little amount of money which is dedicated to it. These savings create a mattress and provide them a way to absorb minor incidents.


But insurances and banks doesn’t consider this money as a protection
Insurances and banks consider this money as a saving, but individuals see money and insurances as two complementary ways to manage the risks. 


Money and insurance
To cover their risks, individuals combine money and insurance. What if banks and insurances finally create products that combine all the various practices of protection?

Insurances have a limited and absolute vision of the risks and manners people have to protect themselves. Those preconceived ideas organize insurances’ products and the relationship that they foster with individuals. These lessons are some conclusions from ou study : Enquête sur la perception des risques et leur protection.
However, the way people protect themselves are various and deserves a deep reflection. Do the perception of risks and the practices of protection match the preconceived ideas of insurances?


The field research was conducted in part during summer 2015, and then during fall 2015, throughout 20 in-depth interviews. It was completed with participant observations on some locations where people practice high-risk sport. The panel was constituted of strongly different type of profiles in terms of age, life cycle, revenues and possessions, marital status, living areas and level of exposure to the risk.
